Music Director Vacancy - Paisley St George’s Church
Our church, Paisley St George’s, has a vacancy for a Music Director.
The successful applicant will accompany an enthusiastic Congregation in a wide variety of musical styles at the regular Sunday diet of worship, including some evenings, and at other services during the week where and when required - including in care homes. They will work in conjunction with the Church Choir, including practices, in leading the overall singing and developing the musical life of the Congregation.
The Church organ is a 2 manual & pedal Lammermuir pipe organ in excellent working order. There is also a keyboard which sits in the body of the Sanctuary, both of which are regularly used.
Hymns are chosen by the minister and include varied settings of both traditional and modern contemporary hymns and songs.
The Congregation is also keen to develop a praise band and would look to the successful applicant to take this forward introducing various musical instruments.
Applicants should be musically qualified in playing the organ either through qualification or through demonstrable experience, have a wide knowledge of varying styles of music and have experience in working with amateur choirs. Previous church organist experience would be an advantage but is not essential. Experience of playing other instruments is also desirable but not essential.
Church of Scotland contract and The Scottish Federation of Organists salary scales will apply.
Closing date is 30 September and successful applicants will be called to interview shortly after. Interview candidates will be asked to play the Church organ and keyboard as part of the interview process and should therefore prepare a short piece to demonstrate their technical ability. Sight reading of a standard piece of Church music will also be required.
Expressions of interest, accompanied by details of previous experience and if relevant, of qualifications should be sent to
Jan Phillips, Session Clerk,
11 Inverkar Drive, Paisley, PA2 9HG
