Musical Co-ordinator and Organist Vacancy - St David’s Memorial Park Parish Church, Kirkintilloch

Musical Co-ordinator and Organist

Kirkintilloch: St David’s Memorial Park Parish Church

We wish to appoint a Musical Coordinator and Organist to nurture, sustain and develop our musical tradition at St David’s Memorial Park Parish Church (SDMP). Worship at SDMP draws on a variety of traditions and styles. Musical worship is led by a choir which provides an introit and/or anthem each week, and our Praise Band, which also leads, providing worship songs and contemporary praise as part of the overall diet of worship and praise at SDMP.

Regular Sunday morning worship is at 10:30 am, with occasional special, and additional services at key times in the Church’s calendar, especially at Easter and Christmas.

There are occasional weddings, and more frequently funerals throughout the course of the church year.

Our two manual and pedal pipe organ (1889 Anneessens) has 35 speaking stops and is regularly maintained. We also have a Clavinova in the sanctuary and upright pianos in the Church Halls.

The postholder should:

  • be a church musician and who has a committed, living Christian faith with an active church connection, whose life and witness demonstrates a ‘heart for worship.’

  • be able to lead flexibly and to develop worship and musical gifts and talents within SDMP.

  • demonstrate the necessary musical and technical ability, or willingness to develop these skills, to play our organ.

  • be a church musician and team player with a vison and flexibility to work with the choir, the Praise Band, the Minister and engage with the wider life of our congregation.

  • Be responsible, in liaison with the Minister for broadening the use of music within worship. For example, the involvement of instrumentalists, and by developing the sung repertoire of the congregation. Support and develop musical activities outwith the worship context.

  • Play (subject to standing work commitments) at wedding and funeral services and for all other services not specified above, when the postholder will be paid the proper fee by those who have engaged them.

The post holder shall work sufficient hours properly to complete the duties incumbent on the post.

The holiday year is from 1 January to 31 . Holiday entitlement is four weeks plus two weeks in lieu of statutory holidays, the period during which holidays may be taken being in prior agreement with the Minister.
